While Overwatch has reigned supreme for quite some time in the hero-shooter space, the last year has seen quite a bit of competition enter the space. Marvel Rivals and others are quickly encroaching on the crown and now we see Bad Guitar Studios enter the fray with FragPunk. On the surface, things are about what you’d expect. At launch you have 13 heroes, called Lancers, each with their own abilities and talents. You’ll team up in 5v5 affairs like bomb defusal. Pretty familiar so far, droite?

That familiarity is what will likely allow most players to jump into FragPunk pretty quickly. Cependant, things start getting a bit unique with the addition of “Shard Cards.” First, no you won’t be buying these. The free-to-play game offers all cards to all players for free, no pay wall. Second, these cards change up the match so no battle is ever the same. Lay an egg and eat it to gain health, increase your team’s fire rate speed by popping them with a shot, et plus. These modifiers mix things up quite a bit.

In addition to 15 different game modes, FragPunk also a features a 1v1 tie-break system for those matches that end up too close to call. You can play the 1v1 mode by itself in the game’s arcade, aussi.

FragPunk will eventually arrive on consoles and it will include cross play, but the console launch was delayed and will arrive later.
