While the original SMITE wasn’t the only MOBA to ever do the whole “3rd-person” thing, it was by far the most successful at it. Fast forward about 11 years from its official launch and it’s time for Hi-Rez Studios and Titan Forge Games to bring their MOBA into a new era with a full upgrade to Unreal Engine 5, an updating and revamping of all gods, the addition of new modes, and more improvements.

SMITE 2 aims to not only expand on the pantheons offered in the original, but it also wants to improve on every lesson the team has learned from the last decade. While skins from the original game don’t directly transfer over in most cases, original SMITE players and customers do get “Legacy Gems” for every gem you’ve ever spent in the original game, free or purchased. These Legacy Gems can be used to pay up to 50% of the cost for many items in SMITE 2.

As for modes, SMITE 2 currently offers Assault, Conquest, Arena, and Joust. There’s also unranked 1v1 duels if you’re feeling spry. 41 gods (some revisited versions from the original and some new) find their way into launch, so you’ll likely be able to find your favorite playstyle pretty quickly. If you want to change things up, there’s also the “God Aspect” feature which allows a bit of role customization for your favorite deity.

Hit your lane and see what the sequel offers, but don’t worry, as of right now the original isn’t going anywhere either.
