Yesterday Wildlight Entertainment released its PvP raid shooter Highguard. Since then, the game has racked up more than 15,000 reviews on Steam, and things aren’t looking good.
Don’t get us wrong. There are some positive reviews for the free game. And since the game is free to play, it won’t hurt you to try it out if you really want to.
Jedoch, more than 60% of reviews about the game are negative, and most of them contain legitimate complaints. These include the size of the game’s map, which is too large for 3v3 play, connection issues, and the fact that the game is just plain boring. The latter makes sense if the map is too large to meet other players on it.
Other complaints include blurry graphics and “surface gameplay” with a lack of things (or NPCs) to interact with. One reviewer even stated that they “mostly just feel bad for the developers” as they feel the game wasn’t intended “for this level of scrutiny.”
The question now is what the developers plan to do in response to the fallout, or whether there is anything they can do that matters at this point. Currently, players seem to feel like they have been delivered an incomplete game. This is a bit difficult to overcome.
