How to unlock characters in Duet Night Abyss

There are currently twenty different characters in Duet Night Abyss that can be unlocked and used in your playthrough. Each character fits a different combat approach or role on the battlefield and is assigned to one of six different elemental types – Anemo, Electro, Hydro, Lumino, Pyro and Umbro.

Most characters in Duet Night Abyss can be unlocked through the Secret Letter System, which requires 10 Secret Letter Clues to purchase a letter. That character’s letter can then be opened after purchase once you complete a Hidden Commissions phase. As soon as you open a secret letter, there is a chance that a character thought will be dropped. To unlock a character you must have acquired 30 of their thoughts.

Alternatively, players can use 150 Phoxene Plumule to purchase a character thought, which acts as a premium currency in Duet Night Abyss. Finally, some characters like Margie are available through completing missions or milestones in the game, while the methods of obtaining other characters like Berenica are based on events (in this case, the global pre-registration deadline).

Su Yi and Camilla are the latest characters revealed for Duet Night Abyss. Both were introduced to the public for the first time in the version 1.1 preview livestream on December 12, 2025. Su Yi previously made minor appearances in Huaxu teasers, but everything about her (including her name, until the livestream in December) remained largely a mystery. Camilla, on the other hand, has existed in Duet Night Abyss since the beginning, but only as an NPC who provides the player with quests. After the livestream in December, it was announced that Camilla would be joining the roster of playable characters. Sin embargo, similar to Su Yi, there is no confirmed date for its release yet.
