The New Year’s update “The Winter Wonder: Riffrocin” arrived in Palia today, bringing a festive celebration to the free, cozy open-world MMORPG. The update begins the game’s Luna New Year celebration with festivities at the Fairgrounds as players celebrate the Year of the Riffroc. The celebration includes festive lanterns, new decorations, special rewards and a variety of events – such as the “Path of the Shred” skating activity.

During the celebration, players can find all sorts of goodies in the Maji Treasure Chests, earn rewards through Stamp Card achievements, and participate in the Hot Pot Game. Of course there is also an event package and lots of event decorations, including harvest baskets, tea caddies and Riffroc items. (Yes, there is a plush.)

The update also brings the Roli into the game. This little animal looks like an armadillo and is good at finding salt crystals to use in recipes.

Also introduced in this update is a new official way to collect the Water Tower from Players Ranch. This is apparently something players did on their own, and the developers decided to make it a thing that would allow players to gather without leaving the field.

Oh, and for the cooking fans out there, the 12-day community cooking event Reth’s Soup-erb Bowl runs February 6-18. During this time, players cook soup together in a Super Bowl-inspired event. Players must collect ingredients and do whatever it takes to maintain the soup to achieve a common goal.
