It’s been a while since I’ve thought about or written about Gloria Victis. It’s actually no wonder that the game was canceled not long after version 1.0 was officially released. Sí, the game has been playable in Early Access for a while, but after going gold it only lasted about ten months.
Developer Black Eye Games closed at the same time. When the closure was announced in August 2023, the developer cited “financial reasons” as well as the difficulty of running an MMO with such a small staff. They also pointed out that Gloria Victis is a niche MMORPG and it would be difficult to make it appeal to a larger audience without losing its core structure.
Essentially, the player base wasn’t enough to sustain the game, and more players didn’t buy – even when the purchase price was reduced from $20 to less than $10.
Sin embargo, today we have some potentially good news for fans of the game. Gamigo brings it back. According to an announcement on the game’s Steam page, Gamigo has taken on the role of new publisher and will use its experience in free-to-play multiplayer in reviving the game, meaning the game will go F2P.
Sin embargo, the statement goes on to say that they “stay true to what matters most: a skills-based experience without pay-to-win.” As they transition the game to the new payment model, they will pay attention to player feedback. So if you were one of the fans of the game, you would like to share your thoughts with them.
Sin embargo, there will be a short waiting period. Initially, they will release details of their plans on February 26th and community channels will open later on March 2nd.
