A new open-world sandbox MMO is preparing to debut via Early Access on Steam. Described as a “next-generation sandbox MMO,” Dreamworld (developed by DreamWorld Realities Inc.) is an MMO that allows all players to exist in “a single, infinite, fully shared world.” This means there are no servers, worlds, or shards – anything that generally divides an MMO’s community into smaller communities.
According to the press release, it is based on Unreal Engine 5 and is “designed as a developer-driven platform.” It features a building system that allows players to build pretty much anything they can think of, from fortresses to mini-games to cities. The game also features an AI text-to-3D model generation system that allows for the creation of custom structures.
As you would expect from an open-world MMO, DreamWorld features biomes where players can collect the resources needed for their projects as well as craft weapons and spells, among other things. Players can also look forward to a variety of options when it comes to getting around the game world, including flying, diving, and mounts.
For those interested, the developers and their partner MARBLEX, a subsidiary of Netmarble, have registered DreamWorld as one of the games participating in the Steam Next Fest on February 23rd. At this point, players can try the game for free. Whether or not it will be completely free to play will be listed as such on Steam. No entanto, when I inquired, I was told that monetization had not yet been decided and that players could likely expect premium Founder’s Packs for Early Access. So please note that the status can change.
