Once again, Roblox is facing a lawsuit challenging the company’s policies when it comes to children’s use of its platform. As we know, the Platform has been the subject of numerous concerns about the safety of the children who use it, and we have described various measures they have taken to respond to these concerns. Cependant, these things still don’t seem to be enough – at least for Los Angeles County, which happens to be the latest group to file suit.
According to an article about Game developerwhat we discovered through Massive surgeryThe lawsuit alleges that Roblox “engages in unfair and deceptive business practices that endanger and exploit children.” The platform is also described as an “unsafe online environment” and a “breeding ground for predators.” It goes on to say that this issue is behind Roblox’s “design decisions, security deficiencies, and false and misleading representations.”
As for the county’s goals with this lawsuit, it has sought “injunctive relief, mitigation and civil penalties of up to $2,500 per day for each violation.” This may not seem like a lot, but since there are multiple violations every day, it could be a significant amount.
Roblox has issued a statement on the matter, saying they “strongly deny the allegations” and will “vigorously defend themselves against them.”
