Earlier today, Warframe players reported receiving strange messages via squad invites in the free-to-play shooter. The News – as you can see here Reddit post – ranged from short, potentially offensive content to a Lorem Ipsum copy/paste to story time. Several concerned players shared images of the messages they received on Reddit and Twitter, fearing that their own accounts may have been hacked.
Digital Extremes responded almost immediately to players on both fronts, letting them know they were aware of the issue and investigating it, and advising players not to accept strange invitations but to forward the information to support. A few hours later, she I wrote an official post apologized to the players for their “distress”. [the] could have caused the problem.”
The post goes on to say that “malicious actors were able to disrupt and modify group invite text fields” to display these messages, but that “no accounts were compromised or data was exposed.” They also reassured players that it was safe to continue playing the game and noted that they had issued a fix to address the issue. As of 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time, direct game invites are disabled and will remain disabled until the release of Shadowgrapher on March 25th. Players can join squads with friends via the friends list.
