As Arc Games celebrates Star Trek Online’s 16th anniversary, the developer of the free-to-play MMORPG is doing some really cool things for it. Of course there are the standard in-game activities and such. But maybe you didn’t expect the short documentation. This is not a documentary about the game, but rather the history of Starfleet and the four different ship types that played an important role in the organization’s early days.

The 14-minute video was created entirely in-universe and includes “historical” archival footage. Some are from the Star Trek: Enterprise series. The video also includes guest commentary from people and volcanoes.

The four ships discussed in the video: the NP Miracle Worker Light Escort, the Kumari Pilot Light Battlecruiser, the NV Multi-Mission Temporal Cruiser and the Suurok Intel Science Destroyer represent the three races involved in the early days of the Federation’s founding. (Coincidentally, these are also the four ships available in the “Enterprise” bundle, which is currently available on PC and coming to consoles on April 7.) It’s a cool video – especially if you’re a Star Trek fan, and even if you don’t play the game.
