Path of Exile 2 Vaal changes

As we approach the arrival of Return of the Ancients from Path of Exile 2, GGG prepares to finish Fate of the Vaal. For those wondering what will happen to the current league – and the characters participating in it – we have answers.

In a recent post, GGG announced that Fate of the Vaal will end on May 25th (next Monday). At this point, players of the free-to-play ARPG can expect characters and related items to be migrated to the Standard or Hardcore Early Access leagues. The good news is that there will be no wipes, so players can continue with them for as long as they want – or at least until the new league starts on May 29th.

The other good news for players who enjoyed Atziri’s Temple is that it remains as a core mechanic. Moving forward, players will find Vaal Beacons in Act 3. You need to activate six of them to unlock the temple in the present. Unlocking more beacons in Doryani’s Contigency unlocks the Temple of the Past.

Additionally, a new region in the Atlas offers guaranteed Vaal Beacon encounters on all maps. Players must complete this area to earn points towards the Temple Atlas tree and the bonuses that come with it.

Of course there will be some changes. Changes have been made to prevent the “snake” strategy. Vaal Infusers have been converted into four different currency types. And all players automatically get a maximum crystal cap of 60 and a medallion cap of 6. The latter will do a little work for you. A complete overview of these and other changes can be found on the Path of Exile Steam page.
