Wuthering Waves Mech

If you’re a Wuthering Waves player who’s up to date (and patiently waiting for the next update to bring us the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners crossover), remember to pilot the Exostrider in a battle against the Threnodian Aleph1. While the Threnodian is usually seen as an eye-shaped black hole, it also took the form of a mech for combat, and we spent our time in a huge mech battle.

This meant we couldn’t rely on our typical team lineup to win. It also meant that the free-to-play action RPG’s developers had to think differently about what combat would look like, which they talk about in the latest entry in the Wuthering Waves Developer Deep Dive Series. The video shows what went into building the fight and the story behind it, including all the considerations for how we get to this point in the story, how to make the mech fight feel right, and what kind of music and sound effects we should use in the scene.

One example they gave in the engineering area was designing the movement of the ‘Mech. Throughout the fight you will glide with a broad sword. The other ‘Mech uses a lance, and you can clearly feel the difference. In addition, it differs from playing as one of the characters, which, according to the developers, would seem too floaty if given the same treatment.

The full video with all the details about the fight lasts just under 16 minutes. You can find it below. You even get some information about Aemeath’s mech.
