If you’ve ever played a game from thatgamecompany, you know that they are true works of art. They are not designed for realism. They should be beautiful games that celebrate things like nature and community. The company’s first games, flOw and Flower, are good examples. As is, of course, the company’s free puzzle adventure MMO Sky: Children of the Light. (Honestly, if you’ve never played one of their games, you should.)
Given the artistic approach their games take, it makes sense that the team would decide to create an art book out of at least one of them. As it turned out, they chose Sky. Today they announced a 260-page art book called The Art of Sky: Gratitude to Nesting. The book is more than just a picture book. Co-authored by Jennie Kong, the game’s narrative writer, and Yuichiro Tanabe, head of visual development, it provides an insight into the game’s origins and the background to its development. It also offers insights into the game’s various events and collaborations, such as the AURORA concert, and celebrates the game’s fan base.
The Sky art book is available for pre-order starting today and will be released later this summer. No specific date has been given yet. It will cost players $125 plus shipping. (Note that the press release even stated $100. It also stated that the book was 145 pages.) For more details, see the website.
